Amazing travels on land and at sea, military campaigns and fun adventures of Baron von Munchausen, which he usually talks about with a bottle in the circle of his friends.
The duration of the adventures described in the book of Baron Munchausen is the end of the 18th century. During the plot, the main character finds himself in different countries where the most incredible stories happen to him. The whole narrative consists of three parts: Baron’s own narration, Munchausen’s sea adventures and travels around the world, and other interesting adventures of the hero.
The incredible adventures of the most truthful person in the world, Baron Munchausen, begin on the way to Russia. On the way, he falls into a terrible snowstorm, stops in an open field, binds his horse to a column, and when he wakes up, he finds himself in a village, and his poor horse beats on the dome of the church bell tower, from where he takes it with a well-aimed shot into the bridle. Another time, when he rides on a sleigh through the forest, the wolf, who has attacked his horse in harness all the way, bites into the horse’s body so much that when he eats it, he himself is harnessed to the sled, on which Munchausen and gets safely to St. Petersburg.
Having settled in Russia, the baron often goes hunting, where amazing things happen to him, but resourcefulness and courage always suggest him a way out of a predicament. So, once he has to use, instead of a gun flint, a forgotten house, to use the sparks that fell from his eyes when he shot them. Another time, on a piece of bacon, strung on a long rope, he manages to catch so many ducks that they were able to safely carry it on their wings to the house, where he alternately folding his neck makes a soft landing.
Walking through the forest, Munchausen notices a magnificent fox so as not to spoil her skin, he decides to catch her by nailing her to the tree by the tail. The poor fox, not waiting for the hunter's decision, leaves her skin herself and runs into the forest, so the baron gets her magnificent fur coat. Without coercion, a blind serpent comes into the kitchen of Munchausen. When the baron, with his well-aimed shot, falls into the tail of the guide pig held by the mother, the pig runs away, and the pig, holding on to the rest of the tail, obediently follows the hunter.
Most of the unusual hunting incidents are due to the fact that Munchausen runs out of ammunition. Instead of a cartridge, the baron shoots a cherry bone in the head of a deer, which then grows a cherry tree between the horns. With the help of two gun flints, Munchausen blows up a monstrous bear who attacked him in the forest. The baron turns the wolf inside out, putting his hand through his open mouth into his belly.
Like any avid hunter, Munchausen's favorite pets are greyhounds and horses. His beloved greyhound didn’t want to leave the baron even when it was time for her to get offspring, which is why she whelped while chasing a hare. Imagine the surprise of Munchausen when he saw that not only her offspring was rushing after the bitch, but also the hare, which she also gave birth to during the chase, was chasing the hare.
In Lithuania, Munchausen tames a zealous horse and receives it as a gift. During the assault on the Turks in Ochakovo, the horse loses its back, which the baron then finds in a meadow surrounded by young mares. Munchausen is not at all surprised at this; he takes and stitches the horse’s croup with young laurel sprouts. As a result, not only the horse grows together, but the sprouts of the laurel give roots.
During the Russian-Turkish war, in which our valiant hero could not help but take part, several more funny cases happened to him. So, he makes a trip to the camp of the Turks on a cannonball and returns in the same way. During one of the crossings, Munchausen, along with his horse, almost drowned in a swamp, but, having gathered his last strength, he pulls himself by the hair out of the quagmire.
No less exciting adventures of the famous storyteller and the sea. During his first trip, Munchausen visits the island of Ceylon, where on a hunt he finds himself, it would seem, in a hopeless situation between a lion and an open jaws of a crocodile. Without losing a minute, the baron with a hunting knife cuts off the head of a lion and stuffs it into the mouth of a crocodile until it stops breathing. Munchausen makes his second voyage to North America. Third - throws the baron into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, where he enters the stomach of a huge fish. Dancing an incendiary Scottish dance in her belly, the baron makes the poor animal beat in the water so that Italian fishermen notice it. A harpoon-struck fish enters the ship, so the traveler is freed from his confinement.
During his fifth voyage from Turkey to Cairo, Munchausen acquires excellent servants who help him win a dispute with the Turkish Sultan. The essence of the dispute boils down to the following: the baron undertakes to deliver a bottle of good Tokay wine from Vienna to the court of the Sultan in an hour, for which he will be allowed to take as much gold from his treasury as the servant of Munchausen can carry. With the help of his new servants - a walker, a hearing aid and a well-aimed shooter, the traveler fulfills the betting condition. A strong man, with ease, at one time takes out the entire treasury of the Sultan and loads it on a ship, which hastily leaves Turkey.
After helping the British during their siege of Gibraltar, the Baron sets off on his northern voyage. Resourcefulness and fearlessness also help out a great traveler. Caught in the midst of fierce polar bears, Munchausen, killing one of them and hiding in his shoes, exterminates everyone else. He rescues himself, obtains magnificent bear skins and delicious meat, which he treats his friends.
The list of Baron’s adventures would probably be incomplete if he hadn’t visited the Moon, where hurricane waves threw his ship. There he meets the amazing inhabitants of the “sparkling island”, whose “belly is a suitcase”, and the head is a part of the body that can exist completely independently. Sleepwalkers are born from nuts, with a warrior hatching from one shell, and a philosopher from another. In this, the baron invites his listeners to see for themselves, immediately going to the moon.
The next amazing journey of the baron begins with a study of the volcano Etna. Munchausen jumps into a fire-breathing crater and is visiting the god of fire Vulcan and his cyclops. Then, through the center of the earth, the great traveler enters the South Sea, where, together with a team of the Dutch ship, he opens a cheese island. People on this island with three legs and one arm. They feed exclusively on cheese, washed down with milk from rivers flowing around the island. Everyone here is happy because there are no hungry people on this earth. Leaving a wonderful island, the ship on which Munchausen was, enters the belly of a huge whale. It is not known how the future fate of our traveler would have developed and we would have heard of his adventures if the crew of the ship had not managed to escape from captivity with the ship. By inserting the mast of the ship into the animal's mouth instead of struts, they managed to slip out. Thus ends the journey of Baron Munchausen.
